A classic song that I sang way back, when I was in elementary school.
Every 2nd or 3rd Friday grade 1/2 will spend some time doing some Yoga/Pilates. A great way to refocus, and to test our physical limits. Mme Angela leads our class, (I also participate - except to snap a few shots!). We are so appreciative of her expertise in this area. Some of us really "let go" during the relaxation portion. Looking forward to the next session! We had a wonderful discussion about the common threads in the celebrations we have been discussing. In particular, that several religions recognize the new year, (often by a different calendar), and that many religions have periods of reflection, prayer, meditation, and/or fasting. From this discussion came a very insightful question from JL; "Si les gens ne croient pas en Dieu, est-ce que cela veut dire qu'ils ne reflètent pas?" ("If people don't believe in God, does that mean they don't reflect?") Wow! We concluded they do, and that our religious beliefs is one of many places/ways we learn about what is right and wrong, and how we are supposed to behave. So interesting! EM demonstrating creativity. She followed the instructions, but added a peach bag. Good thinking!
After our run yesterday afternoon, I shared with the class my memories of Terry Fox. Though he did not make it all the way across Canada, he did pass through my home town of Peterborough. Something I will never forget. As a class we went through Douglas Coupland's wonderful book, "Terry", (in our school library) stopping for questions and comments, and for me to share the significance of the images and stories told throughout the book. I hope they got some sense of what he meant to my generation, and how he lives on through their actions yesterday.
Discussing how we celebrate light. We watched this in awe this morning. Welcome back to all Acadecap families. On the blog you'll find the school calendar, the grade 1/2 timetable, and our weekly dictée words. I have also added a small bio page, for those families just getting to know me. As the year progresses, you will find updates and photos of our activities. I am also linked to Twitter, (@Katie_ Acadecap). Please feel free to post comments on the blog, but you may also communicate through my school email address, as I will be checking that daily. If there are corrections to be made on the blog, please let me know by email.
